The north suburban teen responsible for a fatal crash, leading to death of a teenaged girl, has been sentenced to periodic imprisonment on Monday. The 18-year old teen was found guilty of street racing that killed a 16-year-old girl.

The teen named Jeremy Betancourt got 30 months of periodic imprisonment as well as four years of intensive probation.

The crash had killed Antioch High School student Cynthia Perez.

Betancourt will be released from Lake County Jail from his periodic imprisonment for school and treatment.

In March, Betancourt had pleaded guilty. He admitted to street racing under the influence of marijuana that resulted in the death of the teenaged girl.

The charges of aggravated street racing and reckless homicide were dropped after a negotiated deal that was approved under Judge Victoria Rossetti.

Had he been pressed for the initial charges, the teen would have got up to 10 years in prison.
